iEDGE // Hawaii
Although Hawaii is in the United States, due to its unique culture
EDGE CORPS is partnering with iEDGE to bring EDGE to the island of Oahu.
Destination
With a population of 1,400,000 across the Hawaiian Islands, Honolulu, the capitol city, is located on the island of Oahu, which is nicknamed, “The Gathering Place.” Oahu has 2/3 of the State’s population. Hawaii is a melting pot of many cultures and ethnic groups, and you will find a taste of this on the University of Hawaii campus, which sits at the foot of the beautiful Manoa Valley. There are nearly 18,000 students including internationals from both the East and West.
Team
The Navigators have a long history of outreach to the campus, originating under the leadership of Cecil and Thelma Davidson. The Davidsons were part of the 1st generation of staff who served with Dawson Trotman, and often prayed and claimed Isaiah 58 for the islands. “And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.” Over the years God has raised up 18 full- and part-time Christian workers from this campus, who currently serve in ministries throughout the world. Today we have one full-time individual, two part-time couples, and a few volunteer staff who co-labor together on campus.
Serve
Hawaiian culture is very relational in nature and you will be part of a team whose goals is to develop relationships with students, with an emphasis on making disciples within the local community. There will be many opportunities to develop relationships through activities and events and to present the good news of Jesus through your life and values. It is those with the heart of a servant who can have an impact in the ministry here in Hawaii.
